Parent - Teacher meeting

We met last week with Alexi's teacher, Miss Pam, to discuss how she's doing in school; what she's learning and what we should be working with her on.

The Malvern's School Key is:
3 = Fully Met Milestone (The milestone is observed almost all of the time)
2 = Partially Met Milestone (The milestone is observed some of the time)
1 = Not Met Milestone (The milestone is rarely or seldom observed)
NA = Not Applicable (The milestone is not applicable durring the semester)

Cognitive Milestones
They touched on nine areas.
3 = in the area of being able to name and locate at least five body parts.
1 = in the area of being able to sort objects by group.
All other areas, she was given two's.
*Teacher's comment: "We will continue to work with Alexis on sorting and labeling objects, by using colorful manipulatives."

Laguage Milestones
They touched on seven areas.
1 = in the area of making sentences of 2 or 3 words.
1 = in the area of asking "where" and "why" questions. (These two were funny because although she's not making sentences, she is asking "Where did it go?". When I told Miss Pam I was hearing this at home, she did report back to me the very next day that she too heard Alexis ask where something went!)
1 = in the area of using fantasy language while role playing.
*Teacher's comment: "While Alexis' language skill are growing, we will continue to encourage her to use two-word phrases when answering questions." (She did say she filled out her report card two-weeks prior to us meeting and that already at the time of our meeting, Alexis has begun putting two+ words together.)

Art/Music Milestones
They touched on 13 areas.
3 = in the area that Alexis can paint using her fingers or a brush.
All other areas, she was given two's.
Miss Pam said Alexis loves all art and music time in class!
*Teacher's comment: "Alexis enjoys music, and is beginning to sing along and perform motions to songs during Mornign Meeting."

Physical Milestones
They touched on 11 areas.
3 = in the area that she can run!
3 = in the area that she can walk up steps without hand holding.
3 = in the area that she can jump in place.
All other areas, she was given two's.
*Teacher's comment: "While Alexis' large motor skills are growing, we will encourage the development of her fine motor skills through stringing, lacing, and stacking activities.

Social/Emotional Milestones
They touched on nine areas.
3 = in the area that Alexis plays near other children.
All other areas, she was given two's.
*Teacher's comment: "Alexis is able to participate in group activities, such as games and stories, for longer periods of time, and interacts appropriately with the other children!"

Self-Help Milestones
They touched on eight areas.
3 = in the area that Alexis can unzip a large zipper.
1 = in the area where Alexis is cognizant of wet/soiled diaper. (She doesn't tell them when she has a poopy diaper. She will occasionally tell us at home.)
All other areas, she was given two's.
*Teacher's comment: "Alexis is able to clean up the toys when asked, and often does so without prompting from her teachers!

**Miss Pam's overall commnts: "Alexis is advancing nicely in the Young Toddler Class. We will continue to encourage her language development, and work on color and shape recognition. She as become very social and enjoys interacting with the other children during the school day.

We are very pleased with the Malvern School and extremely proud of our little girl. Everyday is something new for her and she continues to surprise us!
